Following on from the vegetative works carried out in the winter, we are now coordinating some resurfacing works to make this stretch more flood-tolerant. It clearly won’t stop the path from flooding (given the location) and a bit more accessible when the whole area is underwater. This is a partnership project between the Thames Path National Trails, Cotswold Lakes Trust, and the landowner at Four Lakes (who is donating all the machine time and labour). Areas that have been excessively boggy and potholed due to flooding, will be scraped out and refilled with new stone, before being compacted. These improvements would be very unlikely to happen without the financial and technical input from all partners, so we’re very grateful for their help.
We’re aiming to start the works during the week commencing 17th of May (subject to conditions) and there will be heavy plant machinery in operation throughout. Although the path will remain open, we’re hoping to redirect as many pedestrians and cyclists on to our Cleveland Lakes path temporarily, and encourage horseriders to seek alternative riding routes. However, should anyone still feel determined to use the path then they will be assisted by the contractors on site.
