This week's news about the Home Energy Model (HEM) is nothing more than an aperitif. 🍹

If the Future Homes Standard (FHS) was a restaurant, we reserved our table two years ago, we've been patiently sat at our table for months, and the waiter has just brought out a jug of water 💧 and bread basket 🍞 .

But we know what this means... the main course isn't far away!

When the FHS consultation was released in December 2023, there were two other consultations hidden in its shadow. This week's publication is the official response to one of those lesser-spotted policy proposals.

In a nutshell 🌰 it confirms SAP is definitely going to be retired. HEM will take over as the method for complying with Approved Document Part L. It will also be used for calculating Energy Performance Certificates (but that is part of a separate consultation).

The document also confirms how HEM has evolved since the 2023 launch, how Government has been actively working with industry to get it right, and how HEM will be continuously improved to ensure it is 'always fit for purpose'.

I'll let you know when they bring the wine out 🍷😉
