The first draft of HNTAS has been published... Essential reading for all insomniacs and designers of Heat Networks and Communal Heating in the UK. 😴 🛏️ ☕

Front page of HNTAS TS1 2025 Draft
HNTAS will set the rules for designing, building, maintaining and replacing all heat networks and shared heating systems in the UK.

I jest because it's so dry... but I can't stress how important this is for people who work with Heat Networks every day. 🚨

This 370 page Technical Standard creates a comprehensive rulebook governing everything from consumer protection frameworks for occupants, minimum technical standards for the design, and new rules around installation, maintenance, accountability and post-occupancy monitoring.

HNTAS (Heat Network Technical Assurance Scheme) has been years in the making. The end goal is to tidy up the wild west of heat networks in the UK by demanding fully documented, highly efficient, well designed, cheap-running, zero-carbon ready shared heating systems.

HNTAS will replace the CP1 Code of Practice for all new installations from 2026, from the biggest city-wide networks to two homes sharing a heat pump.

Happy reading Kids! 😉
